Incredible energy efficiency at the airport

The Bremen city airport serves over 2.5 million passengers a year, making it one of the largest airports in northern Germany. Bremen airport aspired to achieve optimal energy efficiency. So they decided to use 2G combined heat and power plants to supply their airport terminals with heat and power. 2G helped to make this happen with rigorously tested 2G-KWK-400EG power units. These supply an electrical output of 400 kW, which was integrated directly in the 10 kV grid. Furthermore, the CHP yields over 500 kW of heat per hour and achieves a thermal efficiency of 48.9% thanks to its two-stage mixture cooling.

The CHP was thus able to cover a major portion of the airport terminal’s heat requirements through the existing district heating network. The module also features a proprietary 2G sound insulation capsule. This was integrated into the airport’s machine room to keep noise to a minimum.
