1MW Cogeneration System Secured for NewCold Truganina Site

Evo Energy Technologies has secured the Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) contract for a major energy upgrade at NewCold’s advanced cold storage facility in Truganina, Victoria. The project involves the installation of a 1MW natural gas-fired cogeneration system, designed with built-in capacity for future trigeneration through an ammonia absorption chiller.

The new system will generate on-site electricity and thermal energy to support NewCold’s operations, significantly reducing reliance on the grid and improving overall energy resilience. With a total system efficiency of 87.7%, the installation is expected to offset over 2,200 tonnes of carbon emissions annually.

NewCold is a global leader in temperature-controlled logistics for food and pharmaceutical supply chains. This project supports their sustainability goals and operational efficiency while laying the foundation for future cooling expansion using the same energy source.

The plant is also future-fuel capable, offering the ability to transition to alternative fuels such as Biomethane, LNG or Hydrogen as they become commercially viable.

This award recognises Evo Energy Technologies’ continued leadership in delivering high-performance energy systems across Australia’s industrial and logistics sectors.

Evo Energy Technologies is proud to be part of the upcoming National Renewables in Agriculture Conference & Expo, taking place on 23 July in Bendigo, Victoria. One of the highlights of this year’s program is the site tour on 24 July to Kia Ora Piggery, where attendees will visit a large-scale biogas cogeneration project delivered by Evo Energy Technologies.

Supporting Sustainable Farming with Biogas CHP

At the centre of the Kia Ora project is a 160kW 2G Agenitor 404c cogeneration system, supplied by Evo Energy Technologies and housed in a 6-metre container. The system is designed to utilise biogas generated from pig waste to produce on-site electricity and heat.

This project reflects a broader shift toward smarter, decentralised energy solutions that reduce emissions, cut energy costs, and support greater sustainability in agriculture. It showcases how advanced technology can be integrated into everyday farm operations to improve long-term performance and environmental outcomes.

An article from Utility Magazine highlights the $238.5 million upgrade at the Woodman Point Wastewater Recovery and Reuse Facility (WRRF), where Evo Energy Technologies is supplying three 2G Avus 1500b units. These, along with advanced treatment processes, will allow the facility to produce nearly 50% of its energy on-site and cut 5,600 tonnes of CO2 annually. Stage 2 of the Colac Water Reclamation Plant project at Barwon Water is in the final stages of installation and commissioning of a second cogeneration unit—a 2G Avus 500 plus Biogas CHP. This unit, alongside the existing 360kW engine, will meet increased power demands and enhance biogas quality, driving the plant toward grid independence. The project supports Victoria’s net-zero emissions goal by converting waste into energy, benefiting the environment and community.

Our 3MW project in New South Wales is advancing with great momentum! Our team has been making significant strides in installing three 1MW cogeneration units alongside a Heat Recovery Steam Generator, driving efficiency and sustainability forward.An exciting aspect of this project is the upcoming transition to biogas. Once the biogas plant is operational, these engines will shift from natural gas to biogas, reinforcing our commitment to a greener future!
