Transforming Wastewater into a Sustainable Resource: The Woodman Point WRRF Upgrade

11 July, 2024 by Evo Energy

Evo Energy Technologies is proud to be part of a groundbreaking project at the Woodman Point Wastewater Recovery and Reuse Facility (WRRF), Western Australia’s largest treatment plant. This $238.5 million upgrade aims to significantly enhance the facility’s sludge treatment capacity and efficiency. By integrating advanced technologies such as thermal hydrolysis pre-treatment and anaerobic digestion processes, the facility will produce nearly 50% of its energy on-site, effectively reducing greenhouse gas emissions by approximately 5,600 tonnes of CO2 annually.

A key component of this upgrade is the installation of three 2G Avus 1500b 1.5MWe units, which will be complemented by a comprehensive suite of energy recovery equipment. This includes biogas blower packages, C-Nox biogas flare, double membrane biogas holders, and an advanced gas treatment package. The CHP container design ensures efficient on-site assembly and immediate operational readiness, minimising risks and installation time. Inspired by successful implementations at Southern Meats in Goulburn and Kilcoy Meats, the gas treatment solution will feature enhanced control and monitoring systems, integrating Siemens HMI, biogas blowers, and flowmeters.

Innovative Solutions for Sustainable Wastewater Treatment

Evo Energy Technologies’ involvement in the Woodman Point WRRF project underscores our commitment to sustainability and technological innovation. The TS Biological Desulphurisation system, a critical part of the project, offers a more environmentally friendly and cost-effective alternative to chemical scrubbers. This system, alongside other cutting-edge technologies, aligns with our mission to provide sustainable and efficient energy solutions.

The Woodman Point WRRF upgrade is poised to set new benchmarks in wastewater treatment and energy recovery. By enhancing operational efficiency and environmental sustainability, this project not only meets the current demands but also ensures the facility’s capability to handle future requirements until 2040. Evo Energy Technologies is proud to contribute to this transformative initiative, ensuring a greener future for Western Australia.

Kilcoy Global Foods: Pioneering Carbon Neutrality in Agribusiness

22 April, 2024 by Evo Energy

We are excited to announce a landmark achievement in sustainable agribusiness. Kilcoy Global Foods, operated by Kilcoy Pastoral Co, has become the first large-scale beef processing facility in Australia, and potentially the world, to receive Carbon Neutral certification through Climate Active. This milestone sets a new standard for environmental sustainability in the global meat processing industry.

Evo Energy’s Role in Kilcoy’s Sustainability

Evo Energy Technologies is proud to contribute to Kilcoy’s success with the installation of three Combined Heat and Power (CHP) units totaling 4000kW, our innovative Biological Desulphurisation Treatment system, and high-efficiency heat pumps. These technologies transform organic waste into renewable energy, significantly cutting carbon emissions and enhancing Kilcoy’s energy self-sufficiency.

Advanced Technology Driving Sustainability

Our core technology at Kilcoy involves anaerobic digestion, converting biowaste to biogas, primarily methane, which then generates up to four megawatts of electricity annually—powering about 4,000 households. This process significantly reduces the reliance on non-renewable energy sources. Additionally, integrating biomass boilers and solar power has drastically decreased Kilcoy’s reliance on traditional energy sources, aligning with their ambitious emission reduction targets.

Industry Impact and Future Outlook

Kilcoy’s carbon-neutral status is a beacon for the meat processing industry, demonstrating the viability and benefits of sustainable practices without compromising on efficiency. As Kilcoy continues to innovate, it paves the way for others in the sector to follow, promoting a shift towards more environmentally responsible business practices.

This certification not only underscores Kilcoy’s commitment to sustainability but also highlights the potential for significant environmental impacts through innovative energy solutions. We celebrate this pivotal moment and look forward to inspiring and supporting other businesses in their sustainability journeys.
